Deadly Dungeons Android RPG

After a year of development I am finally done with my first RPG game. Deadly Dungeons is a RPG developed for the Android platform. The game is influenced in part by classic dungeon crawler games such as Dungeon Hack, Eye of the Beholder, and Nethack. After being separated from your adventuring party, you must navigate a deadly dungeon, and fight your way through hordes of creatures in a desperate attempt to escape alive. What first begins as a simple escape to the surface turns into a fight for survival, a confrontation with an ancient evil, and a descent to hell itself.

  • Massive and deadly dungeon environments to adventurer through.
  • Randomly generated dungeon levels, creatures, and items.
  • Multiple campaign difficulty levels with more powerful creatures and items.
  • First-person dungeon crawling rendered using OpenGL ES.
  • Touch-based interface.

Has it changed alot from the beta, I will definitely be buying this game (love this type of game)? If I was a beta tester; do I need to create a new char or can I import from the beta?

There is also level scaling?

Oh man. :(

Edit: I thought the level scaling meant that no matter how far or deep you go the enemies will not get too much harder than your level but it seems like what is meant is that when you enter a new dungeon it starts at your current level. That I can deal with.

I do wish the combat was more like The Dark Spire or something rather than just being a click fest though.

Already purchased. Slow but playable on an HTC Wildfire.

The last decent NOT-turn-based first-person dungeon crawler that I know of was King's Field IV, and that was released in 2002! I'm GLAD this is not turn-based, it adds a sense of pace and makes the game feel much less static and plodding. It reminds me of Ultima Underworld, which is definitely a good thing.

Hoping there may be some performance improvements coming, Jacob? Perhaps an option to reduce quality in exchange for a bit of speed for us lowly Wildfire users. :) Otherwise it's solid, engrossing dungeon crawling. Why do games like this have to be so damn rare??

Yes, I intend to make updates to the game. I'll be adding in new modes, creatures, attacks, expansions, dungeon branches, traps, puzzles, and make changes to the game based on feedback I get.

If you a familiar with roguelikes, you can think of this initial version as Rogue. Over time, I'll develop it into something like a Nethack or ADOM.

Yes, the level scaling scales the dungeon to the initial level of your character in a new game. So, it is more like Diablo than Oblivion. Unfortunately, I have not done much testing past level 20 characters. The game probably gets really hard.

I may bring on some extra programmers at some point. Depends on how popular the game is. I've had really good feedback from over 300 testers during testing. Unfortunately, only one website, Androgamez, has agreed to review the game. Most games sites just discount the title because it isn't an iPhone game.

Any chance of including a turn-based mode in a future update?

You should make a post about your game at RPGcodex.net. Might find some interested people there.

BTW, I am playing on a Nook Color running Phiremod 6 and it runs flawlessly.

I may be able to add in the ability to switch to a turn-based mode for fights that require more tactics. It could be a button in the top left, or perhaps just a menu option that toggles between modes. There are some time-based things that would have to be converted to turns in the code, but it would probably only take a couple days of dev time.

I'm mainly doing bug fixes right now, but I may be able to add this mode into the march update along with a 'hardcore' mode that has permanent death for all those roguelike fans out there. :)

Dude, this needs a major difficulty hike. It seems pretty much impossible to die.

Honestly I hope you don't think I am picking too much cause over all it is a really fun game.

Just wanted to drop in let people know that Deadly Dungeons is currently 60% off the regular price. This is the only time I'll be doing a sale like this before the expansion is released so be sure to pick it while you can.

Looks good. Will it be dropping in price on Android Market as well?

Installing the demo to give it a whirl. :)

I did have it for 60% off on the Android Market, but sales actually went down that day and I was continuing the sale until sales decreased on each market. Amazon sales went up for a day, but then went lower the next day. My game is a little different from most games since its target is 35-45 year olds. Fans of roguelikes and RPGs from the 80s and 90s. Subsequently, that is the vast majority of people who buy it. It is a bit too much for younger people. Most 35-45 year olds have money so lowering the price doesn't really get them to buy it any more.

I did have a demo version available, but I am doing away with it. It isn't a good representation of the game today. I may release another demo version once I finish up the expansion.

I'm in that age bracket and have barely any money! At this price I was unable to resist though. Thanks!

+1

Those of us in this age bracket don't always have readily disposable income, especially with 4 kids! Thanks for the price drop, I finally picked it up.

There is an increase in number of copies sold when I put the game on sale. Though, not enough to break even with the revenue the game brings in when it is priced higher.

At $.99 the game brings in about 1/3rd of the amount it usually does.

I've let the sale go on longer than I originally intended, because the increase in number of copies sold have increased my rankings in the market. I'll probably end it in a couple days.

Ok, I'm probably going to stop the sale later on today. If you would like to get the game at $.99, this is the last day to do it.

Also, if you rate the game, be sure to leave a comment.
