Help debranded my phone today

hi all i debranded my phone today just to get rid of all the orange bloatware on it dont really feel the need for rooting well not yet anyway lol
but just a wee question when i connected it to kies it said the version of the device cannot be updated

my about phone says now

android ver 2.3.3

baseband 19100xxke4

kernal 2.6.35.7-19100xxke4-cl212813 se.infra@sep-52 #2

gingerbread.xxke4

will it never be able to be updated ever again through keis

will i have to flash it manually from now on to get updates

ps i didnt do the debranding myself was too scared took the easy way out and paid a tenner down the high street

maybe this is the latest version thats why it says this

hope someone can help me not that im having any problem just would like to know for future updates like when android 4 comes out and is available

This isn't the newest, there's 2.3.5 KI8 if im not mistaken.
also, im quite sure kies wont let you update from now on, but there's a way to get it back..
flashing updates manually, i think, is better, because updates will be more frequent, and its very easy, next time i suggest you do it yourself, because its alot easier than it is thought to be..

There's actually xxki4 that's more recent than ki8 but anyway that wasn't the question. Personally I'm not familiar with ke4 but I'm thinking maybe it isn't an official released carrier branded firmware. Kies will only recognise the official firmware. So if you really want official updates you need to flash official firmware. But since you've flashed with odin already you might as well keep with that as you will get updates months before you would've. Try xxki4 from here (way ahead of your current firmware)

Or maybe that didn't actually make too much sense (sorry few beers) so try and update kies

My stock orange firmware was KE2. And yep feel happy about removing Kies out of the picture from now on. ODIN is a remarkable piece of software.

well, on the XDA page i saw KJ1.
and anyway, can you explain why ki4 is newer than ki8?
isn't it K=year, I=month, 8/4 = version, thus making 8 newer than 4?

Thanks

That would make sense but for some reason ki4 came after 8. I can't seed the logic in it it just did.
