debrick.img for sgh-i257?

Can anyone make me a debrick.img for an sgh-i257? I assume it would be the same as sgh-i257m (the Canadian version). A friend of mine bricked his phone and it won't turn on at all (no recovery, no download mode, no logo, no... nothing). If I plug it in the computer, my computer makes that hardware plugged in sound.

I don't have another S4 mini that I could make the debrick.img with.

I can't flash with Odin. I can't even get into download mode. I even tried getting Odin to detect the phone for the fun of it (even though no download mode). No go.

re: no download mode

Sorry, missed that from your original post. Have you tried a jig to get it into download mode? I can't help with the .img file since I don't have an S4 mini.

It's pretty easy to make one. :)

You will need a cheap micro USB cable ... the cheaper the better because you will be cutting out the micro USB connector with a razor knife (x-acto works just fine). Then you need to go to a Radio Shack and buy the 5-pack of 100K ohm resistors for $1.29 (you only need three, but 300k single resistors are harder to find) and a soldering iron with a fine point.

Slice the insulation off the cable and disconnect all the wires. Then you will need to solder the three resistors in series and connect the ends to pin 4 and pin 5 of the micro USB connector.

The connections will be (when viewing the connector as shown) the furthest most left connection on top (pin 4) and on bottom (pin 5)

You end up with this:

Once you've built your jig, then power off the phone (battery pull would be advised in your case) then with the phone off, plug in the jig. In a few seconds it should boot into download mode and away you go.

Thanks. I was avoiding like the plague to have to make/buy one. I just want a debrick.img file and hopefully all will be well. I am at home with 3 kids and I really don't feel like leaving the house with them... :/ (Plus my husband took the van to work to change the winter tires to summer ones and so I can't leave the house today anyway)

Is there any way to connect the pins without a jig? I have a Android Mini PC (MK809III) that I hard bricked and I put a paper clip between pins 8 & 9 to connect them together and it worked perfectly.

I'm not even sure if the phone can be revived. My friend said it kept randomly turning off by itself and then finally it just wouldn't turn back on.

You need 300 ohm resistance to put it into d/l mode

Could it be a simple as a bad battery?

This work for me on a g900t maybe work for you.... with out battery usb press combination key for download mode keep pressing insert battery and connect usb cable play with it maybe takes few tries.... hope it help.....

I may have figured things out. Here is my theoretical debrick.img for the SGH-I257M

I made my own from the stock ROM. Not sure if that's how you do things, but it makes logical sense to me. Here are my instructions, should someone else want to try to make their own debrick.img: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66593246&postcount=2

Now... my phone is still bricked. But it could be that I'm using a 64GB microSD card (that's all I have; going to see tonight if I can borrow someone's 8 or 16 or 32 GB card. It also could be a bad battery (as mentioned above). Or perhaps my making of my debrick.img is incorrect and thus not working. Lastly, it could be super hard bricked, and the only thing that will fix it is a USB jig or sending it in for JTAG repair. :(

I will try what carlos99 said. If it works, I will report back. if it doesn't, I would bother reporting.

There is also one other thing I want to try, but I can't figure out how to do it: http://kernel-develop.blogspot.ca/2012/05/how-to-generate-8660msimagembn.html

I downloaded and installed QPST and tried following the instructions for building a 8660_msimage.mbn recovery image. But that didn't work. I kept getting errors when trying to load the xml def. I also don't have an sbl1.mbn (it's missing from my stock ROM; like... not there even when downloaded off the sammobile website). I had unpacked everything (similar to what I did in my debrick.img making instructions).

I see in QPST that when you open QPST Configuration and then go to Start Clients > Software Download and then go to the Factory Image tab that I can load an .mbn file. So I was trying to generate one. Maybe I can have success using another tab, but I don't know what files to load from unpacking the stock ROM.

Tried what carlos99 said, several times. Still didn't work. No download mode. No Odin detecting anything. Only QPST does. In Device Manager, it shows, under Ports (COM & LPT): RELINK HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM5). I think this is the same as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM5).
