The update won't fix the noise in the pictures, unless they add some sort of noise reduction post processing. But seeing how long a 5 mp already takes to reload the camera I hope not.
It should correct the focusing problems though. That for sure is just software.
But this is why more megapixel do not equal better camera. In the same sensor size, more mega pixels equal more heat which equals more noise. And if the technology isn't the best, like canon and nikon, then you get shitty pictures. That's why blackberry and iphones 3.2 cameras quality are way better.
And dropping the pixel size on the droid to the 3 or 2 won't help. It's still a 5mp sensor.
