Help Deciding on a device

Dorzalty

Lurker
Hello,

I have a very tight budget (50$ for the phone itself, not counting tax/shipping) and I have found three potential devices to get for said budget, however I'm not sure what to make of the reviews. They have a lot of positive reviews, but in them the cons listed seem pretty big for some (details below). So I was hoping the people here could provide this new phone buyer some feedback.

What I will use the phone for: wifi device and games (not super intensive games). I would prefer a Motorola device, as I have wanted one since forever, but I am willing to give that up for external data support if the device itself is of solid quality for the price.

Here are the devices I would like to ask the community about and which would be the wiser choice considering what I want:
A Best Buy employee told me that if I wanted something that was good enough to game on and put my music on, I should get the Moto E because it is basically just a slightly "watered down" version of the Moto G. He also said that no matter what I get, I should hard reset it for optimal performance. I'm not sure how much this person actually knows, because I have been lied to by store employees to make a sell, so here I am...

If anyone could provide some assistance, I would be very grateful!

Thanks!

I'd discount the Moto E as it only has 4GB memory instantly.

I'd probably edge toward the motorola as it's a decent, long standing brand and everyone raves about the G series.

In saying that, Androidpolice.com have a lot of good things to say about Blu, but I can't find a review of the advance 4.0.

Blu Advance:
"4 GB Storage Capacity (Estimated Free Space 2.25 GB)"

Like the Moto E that's not enough internal storage. Of the three phones you listed the Moto G is the only realistic option for games.

He also said that no matter what I get, I should hard reset it for optimal performance.
If you buy a used phone I would recommend that, but it doesn't make any sense to factory reset a brand new phone. EDIT: might be a good idea for new phones also.

Thank you guys!

If I had gotten the Moto E, I would use my microSD cards (I have an 8GB one) but my main intent is to play some games so if E isn't as good in that department looks like the Moto G gets the spot! :)

I thought the same, didn't want to mess something up following his advice without at least checking. Glad I did.

(I tried to like your posts but apparently I can't do that...but I do thank you both for the replies!)

I always factory reset a new device before setting it up for the first time. You'd be surprised at the number of devices that leave the factory with a dirty cache partition.

Re. the 8GB SD Card, you'd only be able to use that for media etc, you wouldn't be able to install any apps on there (I know you've already decided on the Moto G, but it's handy info just in case you need it in the future).

I'm sure you'll be very happy with the Moto G, it's meant to be a fantastic wee device despite the price. :)

Then I will be sure to try a reset. Will the manuals explain how to do that?

That is actually very helpful information. I was going to buy a used Moto E some time after my Moto G as a backup or maybe even a gift, but if it is restricted to media than it would be pretty much useless to me.

Thanks again!
