I have a galaxy note 2 and use the default browser. I am not sure exactly when it happened but it will no longer download anything via the built in browser.
I have reset the cashe, reset the browser, cleared all cashe in download, restarted phone. Installed Chrome and I can get it to work.

So Chrome downloads but Internet doesn't? Or neither do? Or what?

If you don't have enough internal free space, you can't download anything.

Chrome will download but Default will not.
I have 29.71 gm of total space available and 17.88 GB of Available space.

I have tried jpg files that are small and they still say
downloading and nothing happens.

You might see whether anyone in our Note 2 section has had this problem. I've never owned that phone, and don't use the built-in browsers on any phone I do use, so can't do more than suggest generic fixes.

If you can download with an added browser it's clearly not a space problem but a problem with the browser. Unfortunately I think you've already tried the things I'd suggest - clear the browser's cache and clear the browser's data (the latter of course wipes bookmarks etc, so back them up first). Since it's a system app you can't damage the app itself unless rooted, so corrupt app data is the obvious cause, but if you've cleared data for the app already that would fix that.

One thought: you've not had an update to the app in question recently (or a system update)? That's the one way the app itself could get messed-up on an unrooted phone that I can think of.

Hi

Where you say 17.88 GB of available space, I assume that must be on the removable SD card as the note 2 only has 16GB internal storage (unless you got a really early S Korean one!).

I have no problems with the stock "Internet" on android 4.1.2 (although I dont like the app and prefer "Naked Browser" which offers much more control.) In my experience when a download fails, but the little arrow keeps going, its because the connection to the server has been lost somewhere. Doesn't really help I know. As Hadron asked, have you upgraded (to 4.3 ?)

Also, from home screen,
menu
manage apps
all tab
scroll right to the bottom and check that there is no disabled "downloads" app there.

I have updated to 4.3 but that was months ago.
Yes I have an SD card but is there a way to know how much is available on the Device vs the total?

now google play is no longer downloading unless on WiFi. Not sure if related or not though

Hi

To see available device memory

Menu button
Settings
Storage
Its under device memory. Sd card storage is listed separately. (Unless they have changed it in 4.3 :) )
