Default app

I am trying to set my default messaging app after installing handcent sms application. I have disabled notifications on the original messager, which is fine, but it strikes me that this isnt necessairly setting the default app, just hiding the old one.

I have gone into manage applications but my 'clear defaults' button is greyed out in both messagers and they boths say 'no default set'. How do you set one?

Thanks

It's not hiding the old one it just disables notifications in the old one which is what you're supposed to do.

The only way I know of is when an action launches an app. If nothing is set as default and there are multiple apps to choose from the OS will ask you which app to use and you can set a default at that point. For messaging, you can go to your contacts and choose to message a contact from the contacts app.
