yeah you have to root it, and then after that use a terminal emulator to remove those apps by typing commands. ive done it and its pretty straightforward to do.
You only have to root it if you want to stop those apps from starting up at boot. You can use a task killer app (e.g. taskpanel) to kill them after boot and they wont come back until you reboot again, no root required.
