Help Default area code help

Need help changing the area code,
When dialing a 7 digit phone number it automatically places 617 as the area code which is not mine. Any ideas where/how to change this.
Thanks for any help

I have the same bug:

I have an S2 with 2.3.4 firmware, XEU CSC, unlocked and rooted. When I use with TMO in the US, the phone automatically prepends an area code: e.g (my area code is 408), if I dial 123-4567, it automatically dials 617-123-4567. If I dial a full area code, it works as expected.

Is this a bug ? or is there some setting I am missing ?

It's not a bug. Most area's in the US now require 10 digit dialing.
If you don't put in the area code, the phone will assume the number is in your area code and prefix that to the dialing sequence.

As to the fact it's adding the WRONG area code is something you will have to call your carrier to have fixed. It get's this info through the phone system, usually it's pushed out through the network registration based on the SIM card.

However, the BEST practice is to make sure to always dial 10 digits, and make sure that all of your contacts are stored in 10 digit format, including the area code.

I know of no area in the US (And possibly Canada), that still supports 7 digit dialing. It's the price we pay for having so many phone numbers in use.
