Default contact number gets reset

When you have multiple phone numbers for a contact and you set one of those numbers as the default, it looks like that the default number gets reset when the contact gets updated 'automatically'.

For example, I just used syncmypix to set my contact's photos from Facebook (the common ones) and then afterwards, any default numbers I had set....they were gone.

Is there a way to save the default number somehow? Perhaps in Google Contacts somewhere?

I have the same issue, but I do not sync contacts with anything else, besides google. It also seems that the phone forgets speed dial numbers. I had set a few numbers on speed dial, used it a couple of times, then the next time the phone said no contacts assciated with the speed dial #.
