Help Default e-mail address

KenWA353

Lurker
In setting up a new phone I was required to open a Gmail account and provide a Gmail address. I have now set up K-9 Mail for my e-mail using my actual email address which is not with Gmail. I do not have a Gmail account and do not wish to use Gmail. While setting up another app it asked for my email address and when I entered my correct address it rejected it - presumably because it is reading the Gmail address I originally entered.

When I tried to remove the Gmail address it appeared that all I could do was delete the account but I then received a warning that this would delete all my personal data. Can anyone help me out of this dilemma? What personal data is deleted? Would this include things like my phone contact list and browser bookmarks? If so, how can I get rid of this Gmail account. The last thing I want is to have mail being sent to an account which I do not use.

All Android phones and and the built in google ecosystem are tied to a google mail address so you will have to leave it on the phone. I use mine purely for market purchases, android stuff and the free 5GB google cloud account that comes with it.
Google mail also lets you sync your contacts, calander etc to your account so sign up on any other / future android device with the same email and the info will sync from your account which like a mini backup.

I also am using my Google account only for Android. My default e-mail address for daily purposes is a different one. So on my phone I have two accounts.
