default image viewer

I'm not sure if this will belong here or elsewhere.

I have a galaxy s3. My battery is draining relatively fast. During diagnosis, it shows that the default image gallery was using 90% of my battery, even while idle. Nothing syncs to web albums. After some research, I installed quick pic. I've grown to love this app, except for one problem I have no solution for.

While receiving pictures via mms, I cannot open them by clicking on the thumbnail. I'm guessing since I have my default gallery disabled, my image viewer is as well.
Are there any applications that can replace this or do I just need to deal with it?

I don't know the S3's app, but I can display images received from MMS directly in QuickPic using my HTC's stock message app.

A thought: try going into Settings > Apps > All, selecting the default gallery app and trying the "clear defaults" button. The system should be smart enough not to leave a disabled app as default, but just in case.

Otherwise, what happens if you use a third party message app? I'm suggesting this just in case the Samsung message app is hard coded only to use the Samsung gallery app for viewing MMS (as I say, I'm not sufficiently familiar with the S3 software to say either way).

P.S. Welcome to the forum :)
