Default to compose email has changed on 7.0

Greetings, my Galaxy S7 updated to Nougat 7.0 overnight.
I use the inbuilt email app and normally just use the + symbol to compose a new email. Pressing the + symbol used to open a blank email template.
Since the update when I press + I now get a sub option to either compose a new email or compose a new event, I don't want this sub option, just straight to new email, is there any way to turn this off at all??

cheers

edit: actually I just realised that this is only an issue on my Exchange account and not on my private POP accounts

should get options for "once" or "always". you should also be able to change it in settings> applications> default applications

Thanks, most things get offered as Once or Always but this doesn't. Also doesn't appear to be any options to change it under settings as you mention. The inbuilt mail app is set as default, this is just a small option within the app itself when composing a new message. I checked the inbuilt calendar as well but no options in there either.

you can also check settings> applications> default applications. there is a setting to set the default app selection. I always change this to "ask before setting"

Thanks again, but my issue isn't choosing which app to use, it's a function that has changed within the app itself. An extra step has been added into composing a new email - a choice for new mail or new event.

I've noticed this with text messages too. If I go to messages and click on new message, it immediately takes me to my contacts w...which I don't want, with the new message icon down at the bottom. To get a blank message template I have to press that icon again. Seems like it might be across the board this extra layer or step when it comes to messages. Very annoying.

Guys, the stock email n txt apps are junk, they always have been, use for example something like Gmail and Textra.

I get that it may be crap compared to other, more user friendly apps. However the default app worked fine initially prior to the update, or else others may have gotten another app initially.

No it didn't it was full of issues and bugs i got rid of that mail app years ago.
I've been using the default app daily for years for both my Exchange account and POP accounts on S2, S4 and S7 and have never had an issue with it. I tried using the Outlook app and didn't like it as much. This is the first complaint I have with the default app. I hate when new features are forced on people without the option to turn it on or off.

Exactly and that is why you use another better 3prd party app, which has so much more customisation available and does not force you down 1 route. All sammy had to do was make these option changes into toggle switches rather than baking them into the OS, but no that would be too much trouble for them.
