Help Default Weather widget has stopped working

Thebel

Lurker
So after I updated to 4.4.2 (I bought this G2 yesterday), the weather widget that comes default has stopped working. It was working perfectly before the update, but now it doesn't even launch.

When I try to add widget again, it says it needs to download "weather theme", and after I click yes, it moves me to update applications page, and then nothing happens. I can see that it "tries" to download something (there is download thingy in bar where clock and other things are). When I check what it is doing, it uses 20 kb of RAM and no matter how long I wait, absolutely nothing happens. I tried to force shutdown and trying again, still nothing, I tried clearing the RAM, still nothing. I restarted whole phone, with no effect. When I leave the update page, download disappears from upper bar.

I loved that widget, but I have no clue how to get it working again. I had to download another one to fill its spot, but its not so awesome looking as AccuWeather one.

If you got the KitKat update yesterday, do a factory default... Seriously, it's a pain but you are obviously having problems so there is some left-overs or other junk clogging things up. Default the phone, and if it still fails, return/exchange it, but I am guessing it will just work.

Thank you for the reply, I reseted the phone, it added widget back and it said "tap the widget to add location", but same problem stays.

But this reset fixed my gps, I'm guessing widget doesn't have support for 4.4.2?

Are you using a third party launcher?

The widget works fine in 4.4.2... Are you using the stock launcher, or an aftermarket one like Nova or Google?

Its the stock one, its on front page when you first time start the phone. It asks to tap the screen to add location, but it was not working so I removed it and tried to add it again, now it asks for weather theme (I have no idea what is that) and after I click yes, I get moved to update applications page, but there is no downloadable updates at all.

There is notification that its updating, but nothing happens.

I honestly don't know what to tell you... I deleted my widget, cleared data, and re-enabled it with no issues.

You didn't disable Weather or Weather Themes did you?

I don't have a D802, so I am not sure what else I can do help you. If it is doing it bone-stock after a factory default before you modify anything, it is likely a bad firmware flash. You could try using the LG Flash tool to reflash the stock image, each variant is different so I would check the XDA threads about how to go about that specifically on your device.

It even worked here on my end. I took it a step further to try and help by reflashing the stock firmware back on, and testing. I even tried disabling it and then re enabling it. Still works.

I noticed that weather is not the only one, Notebook has same problem. I tried hard reset again, didn't help. Weather app is running all the time though.

When you say you "reset" it, or did a "hard reset", do you mean that you just turned the phone off, then turned it back on so it would reboot? To do an "FDR" (Factory Data Reset), you go into Settings, then into Backup & reset, then you select Factory data reset. If you already did this... then nevermind. But if you do a Factory Data Reset, be forewarned that you will lose pics, documents, anything you have saved to this point. Being that you got the phone yesterday, you shouldn't have too much to back up yet.

Good luck!

Yes, I did factory reset, with no success. Before that I backed up everything.

So you are completely stock, did a factory data reset, and the problem still persists? Something is wrong with your device, I would either reflash the stock images, take it in to you got it, or contact LG about repair/replacement.

It appears that the problem is solved. I checked app updates and there was 9 updates suddenly, and some were apps that didn't work earlier, like notebook and dictionary. After I updated them, the weather theme update was ready for download. Now the apps rae working : )

This was a problem for me just after the 4.4 kit kat update. I noticed my clock/weather widgets not working, because the clock would gradually fall behind on the time. This was occurring in some form or fashion in all my widgets. Some widgets would just sit their spinning attempting to load up on the screen. The only thing that would work is one my Beautiful Widgets clock only widget. Everything worked.

I was reluctant to reset my phone and had hoped it would resolve itself or an update would come out to fix it. I played with the widgets again couple nights ago, and the problem was still there (after several months). So I decided to reset my phone...and that fixed the problem. All widgets working again. Just hate setting my phone backup due to the time it takes.

Well, my weather and clock widgets stopped working again today. Tried several vendor widgets and they are affected.

I decided to (this past weekend) to reinstall the original Jelly Bean version via the LG FlashTool, which I've used before in the past. So I reinstalled that, then I immediately performed the KitKat update via Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant tool. The phone is actually running much better and snapper too. When I did that last reset previously to fix the widgets, I thought it was running kind of slow; I particularly could notice it on the lock screen keypad. It's much better. I haven't installed my 3rd party widgets apps, which I'll get to this weekend.
