Help Defy MB525 - Sound only with Headphones/Speaker On

Phone is on version 2.1update.

When I make a call, earpiece is totally silent. Don't know anything about what is happening except the display shows 'Connected..@, then 'Active' and the call time going up.

When I make a call, and press 'Speaker', I can hear all, call made OK.
When I plug in Headphone, make call ('Speaker' off') I can hear all, call made OK.

Does anyone have any experience of this, and the solution?

Many of these phones had earpiece hardware fault. If still in warranty take it to the shop for free repair.
