Defy now in India

Well, picked up Defy at a retailer in New Delhi yesterday a day after it was reported as launched on some web-sites. A rather muted launch - no ads, nothing. Just some wague press release which found mention on some vague websites. Anyway, I got my hands on it @ Rs.18,500.

Somethings I was surprized about. First the unit was made in Chennai, India in January 2011. Second, the software on it doesn't seem to have Motoblur on it. I see very few Motorola widgets, but nothing like lot of what other people complain about Motoblur and other bloatware. In fact, in Add Account, there is no mention of a Motoblur account and during setup, there was no need to create a Motoblur account. I guess they cleaned up lot of things for India release.

I am so far pleased with everything. Keeping my fingers crossed. And waiting for Froyo update.

i went to buy it in sector 14 gurgaon, the one the shopkeeper showed me was made in china.
how is this possible?

Was he an official Motorola channel dealer? My guess is he is not and is importing directly. I think for rest of the world, they were made in China. If you buy from official Motorola channel, I think you will see it made in Chennai.

I saw some other report in another forum about a guy buying it in south india and was also reportedly made in Chennai.

I bought it from Bangalore for Rs.18500 including the 4 GB RAM.. DEFY rocks.. i installed the black market app and since then i have lots of apps and tonnes of fun..

I bought it from Univercell at Mantri Square, Bangalore this Saturday for 18,050 (18,591 inclusive of 1 year theft/damage insurance).
One vendor in Jayanagar was actually offering it for 17k, but he told me gonna take some time for the stock to come in.
