Delete whats app

Newbie
If I have lost my phone and it is turned off would the following be possible.

Get a new sim card , type number (from old whats app account ) into whats app on new device .... once open ... access the delete account function. Will this then delete my old account on whats app , all messages , remove all whats app data from lost device and not be retrievable in any way ?

Also by activating delete does that remove any previous back ups thus preventing and data recovery ?

My phone is switched off but should that all still work ?

Just get a replacement sim with the same number, and use it on your new phone. If you have sensitive information the best thing to do is to email whatsapp and deactivate your account asap.
 
You did not read the link I sent. "If you don't activate your account within 30 days, it will be completely deleted."

What happens when an account is deactivated
  • The account isn't completely deleted.
  • Your contacts can still see your profile.
  • Your contacts can send you messages, which will remain in a pending state for up to 30 days.
  • If you reactivate your account before it is deleted, you will receive any pending messages on your new phone and you will still be in all of your group chats.
  • If you don't activate your account within 30 days, it will be completely deleted. <<<<<

I have purchased a new sim with my old number and logged on to whatsapp ... I have now deleted the account ... will that remove all my data from the phone ?

So if I have a number that isnt used for several months whats app with deactivate the account and then after a certain time will delete the account ?

This will remove all data from the phone that is related to the app even if the battery is switched off

I want to delete the account not the app from the phone, if I delete the account from another device will this remove the details ... messages ect from the old device even if battery is swithed off

I lost my device
I obtained a new sim the following day.
Loaded whats app account onto new device , then deleted account.
( this now should have deleted my account and all conversations on old device ? Is that correct ???
....... does it remove pics and vids also ? )
I then changed mobile number so that number could not be used to re- install and back up.
I deleted all back up data from google drive
Please tell me if there is now any way someone can find deleted past chats or any data relating to my DELETED whats app account on old device ??

If the old device is switched off then you can disconnect that device from the account but obviously data on that device won't be deleted (it's switched off, so how can it know that the account has been deleted?).

I'm sure you won't be able to access any WhatsApp data on it through the WhatsApp app: it won't be able to connect to the servers and sign in to the account (I'm pretty sure that just cancelling the SIM would have that effect). But will it be able to connect to the internet, talk to WhatsApp's servers, them tell it that the account it can't sign into anyway because it doesn't have a valid SIM has been deleted and that it should delete its data? I honestly don't know, I'm just spelling out what is effectively being asked here to make clear what it is you are hoping will happen. One thing I'm certain of is that if it were restarted without an internet connection and someone got into the phone (i.e. you have no screen lock set) then they could certainly access photos and videos: with no internet connection it would have no way of knowing they should be deleted and any file browser or gallery app can access the "WhatsApp media" folder. So no, I cannot give you an assurance that nothing can be accessed on your old phone because there are circumstances in which it might be. But you do have a screen lock, right?

I was hoping that any data relating to the app would be wiped off the phone , I've removed the google drive back ups and by changing my number have also prevented any file manager back ups working due to it needing a registered number to that account to activate the back up ....
I do have a screen lock but was just working out how exact an account deletion was , whatsapp say all data is removed including back ups but I know that your phone backs to the cloud it also saves the last 7-9 days of chat to the file manager .... which is why the changing of number stops back up retreval.
I have to question just how many back ups are actually needed for a person's data and that these companies have a neferous approach to how they collect people's data , it isn't made easy and even when you disable all back ups so your saying you do not wish for any of your data to be stored ..... it still stores to the file manager .... that in it self is cause for concern for privacy invasion!
 
If the app is connected it may delete - I just can't promise because it's not obvious to me whether that will work if the phone is no longer associated to the phone number. I expect that when they say "all data are removed when you delete the account" they assume that the app is actually connected to the account still. But if the phone is turned off or is not connected to the internet then of course nothing you do is going to delete data off the phone.

As for what you call "file manager" backups, WhatsApp automatically makes a daily encrypted backup in the device's internal storage. That's not backing up "to the file manager": a file manager is just an app for browsing files on the phone, and does not have ownership of the files. And as the backups are encrypted only WhatsApp can open them, and it needs to be connected to the account, so you should not need to worry about them.

I don't understand why you think that the local backup is a privacy issue. It's on your device, not shared with WhatsApp or anyone else, and it's encrypted. It doesn't give them access to the data. There are many issues with the surveillance capitalist companies, and WhatsApp's owner (Facebook) is the creepiest of the lot, but in this particular case you are worrying needlessly.
