Unfortunately I made a terrible mistake and deleted some photos from my device that are extremely important to me. I've tried data recovery programs, then realized that UMS appears to be necessary for all of them. I have the SGS3 easy UMS app on my device currently, but it appears that I have to root my phone in order for it to work? Extra possibly important details include that these pictures were stored in internal memory at the time (I wasn't using my sd card) and the model is the SGH1747M (Canadian Rogers version). I honestly don't feel the need to root my phone, unless it's absolutely mandatory for recovering the photos. I'm not well versed on this topic, so if anyone could help me out I would really appreciate it!

I'm sorry to say, even with root, I doubt there is anyway you can recover the photos from the emmc. I tried easy ums but as a Linux user it was useless.

I am rooted though so I can test emmc access using easy ums on my work pc today for you.

In regards to preventing this in the future, I have some recommendations:

1) use external sdcard for photos
2) if you have a computer that's always on, get FolderSync setup to backup sd directories every night
3) get one of those photo apps that has instant upload to cloud

I'd really appreciate if you were to test it out for me despite your skepticism. I actually inserted my sd card in the S3 following this incident, assuming it would be a wise idea. Thanks for your help.

Yep I'll try it today... I'll feed back. I wasn't sure if it only did external SD card or not. I'll get back to you. Just got some IT issues to sort out first :)

Yea. Based on the searching I've done as well, it appears that there isn't an application that will support internal storage recovery. It really is disconcerting having lost those photos (back country hiking in BC!), but it's satisfying knowing that there are individuals who are willing to help with no tangible benefits. I'll definitely be using this forum more in the future as a result, thanks again.

No problem. Consider using some (or all) of the suggestions above. Its worth noting, if you factory reset, the internal SD card is wiped too.

It's not looking promising for those apps. Undelete doesn't support ext4 so won't work and hexamob failed to find anything I've just deleted.
