Help Deleted pictures and mp3s

I switched from a Blackberry Curve 2 to a Droid X2 about a month ago and its been great outside of my most recent issue.
All of my MP3s, pictures, etc were deleted from my sd card (They were still under the old blackberry directories). I know this is apparently a common thing happening on a lot of smartphone models, but I haven't seen anything specific to the Droid x2 or how to fix it thoroughly. And as you've probably already guessed, I have a LOST.DIR directory with 1.45 GB in it, and yep, that's about what I lost!
Anybody have any success actually recovering some of these LOST.DIR files without paying out the backside?
Naturally I only lost pictures of my 2 children's births and ages 0-2, my brother's wedding, and our first family vacations...no big deal

Maybe you can recover the data if you copy the directory from your phone to your computer and open it that way. Thats the only thing that I can think of
