Deleting apps from the desktop

Excuse me if I'm using the wrong terminology, but this is my first Droid. I've had it with Apple. Had they implemented Swype, I might have stayed with them, but enough is enough.

Anyhoo, I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to delete an app from the phone from the desktop (is desktop the correct term?). I know you can remove the app from the desktop, but you still have to go the programs area and delete it there as well.

I read somewhere you can drag the app over the trashcan and wait for a few seconds and it will delete it, but I haven't gotten this to work.

Hello and welcome to the forums. Glad to see you make a choice of a android M8. Now to remove the app from your home screen you need to touch hold til you feel the vibration then drag to the trash bin when the trash bin turns red release from holding or touching the app or touchscreen of your m8

On HTC devices, to uninstall an app you either have to do it from the apps list (button above the home button) or the "apps" option under the settings. Trying to delete the app from the home screen will only remove it there but not uninstall it. You don't have to remove it from the home screen to uninstall it, also.

Unfortunately I think this is the correct answer. The post above mine shows a video that appears to uninstall the app on the M7, but for the M8 it does not show an "uninstall" option.

Really? It does on mine. Are you looking closely in the upper right corner? It may be obscured by your homescreen wallpaper, but it should be there.

For me it only shows the option to remove if you do it from the home screen. From the apps drawer you can uninstall if that's what you're talking about.

Yes, that's exactly it. From the apps drawer, just like in the video. :)
