Deleting by word

Does anyone know if there's a shortcut to delete a word at time when writing txts etc. I tried the tip for the g1 of pressing menu and delete but couldn't get it to work...
 
Not necessarily what you're looking for but holding backspace down starts deleting letters then deletes words after a short while, which would be ok if you're looking to delete a lot of text as opposed to just deleting a single word.
