Help Deleting contacts from phone

Sometimes when I update my contacts on my laptop, they synch properly with my phone, sometimes not. Please help.

How can I get merged contacts show as a single contact on the phone, not as a linked contact?

Sometimes when I click on an unwanted contact, the menu brings up the option to delete. Sometimes the only options I get are to send or to link. How can I delete these contacts from my phone. They aren't on my google acct as visible from my laptop.

You can long press any contact which will bring you a manage box...delete is an opton
