Deleting Email Contacts

Ok, my phone contacts are find, but when I go to send a text message and hit contacts, I have alot of email contacts showing. I would like to delete those, but can't seem to find out how. I did the no sync for gmail, but they are still showing under my message contacts.

Thanks

Open Contacts then tap Menu > More > Display options. Then under Choose contacts to display look for any entries that have an email address associated with it and make sure none of the boxes are ticked.
Although this won't delete those email addresses, it will prevent them from being displayed.

Ray.

I'm having the same issue. Every person that I have ever sent an email to - not just ones I have saved - has been stored in my phone and show up when I start to type someone's name into the text message recipient. I have selected 'show only contacts with a phone number' and I have unchecked everything relating to gmail but it is still happening.

This is due to sync function in Gmail, to stop it

menu> settings> accounts and sync> long touch your gmail account in manage accounts section > it will open data and sync options> here untick sync contacts or remove it

or

you can log into gmail accounts on your PC and delete what you don't want

It is unchecked. Everything in that account has been switched off/unsynched and it's still doing it. I think it imported them when I initially set up the phone, if that makes any difference.

yes, it would have been sync from your Gmail, as your settings would have allowed it , so just delete the contacts you don't want in your phone, and it should not happen again, since you have removed them in gmail.

In addition, if you have any backup apps for contacts, you need to remove them there too.

All you gotta do is open the people app, click on "contacts in youraccount@gmail.com" at the top left then select customize and reselect your gmail account then uncheck "starred in android" or whatever else you want.

Let me know if it helped.

A very stupid application. i can't remove stupid mail address. i did all the above but nothing work as i want. I download another application from google store and now i am using it.

Go to your contacts. Press menu-contacts to display-customized list(press the little gear next to it) - press your Google account- check the box "all other contacts".
Go back to the app itself and delete all the ones you don't want.

I have been struggling with this ever since my at work Exchange account moved from one server to another. Although I was able to change the server, the Account Name was still listed as me@oldexchangeserver.domain and every time I tried to share something to me at that address, it showed me@newexchangeserver.domain but it still sent the mail to the name in the account where it eventually bounced back because that user doesn't exist. The only way to get rid of that was to delete the Exchange account but the old address was still listed as a choice even though it was nowhere in any contact that I could see.

Then I remembered the Google Ecosystem wants to know everything about me and remembers everything it ever thought it knew. So I looked at my GMail contacts -- removed some dead ones but no luck. I also found the setting that added everyone I sent email to as a new contact and disabled that option. Then I tried to send an email in the web gmail to me@newexchangeserver and it offered me@oldexchangeserver as a contact and it asked me if I wanted to add it as a new contact and in the new contact form, there was a "Linked Profile" which was me@oldexchangeserver. Figuring if I added it, I could then delete it, I moved down to the email address and edited to be me@newexchangeserver. And (BELIEVE IN MAGIC!!!) the name in the linked profile changed too.
Now the dead address doesn't show up in either place. But there's still the other Android device that still has the old exchange account on it.....

Well since everything was OK before I asume that it was after you added another account to your phone. What I did and worked was:
Everything was ok before I downloaded OUTLOOK app and added my email account. I just deleted the app and therefore the account from the phone. All my email contacts disapered inmediately. I used other app for that email account and I read carefully so that I didnt check the box that says "sync contacts"

Got me worried for a while, but I have just figured out how to do this..

Follow these steps:

> Go to your App menu (from Home screen)
> Go to People (the app)
> Click on Phonebook (top left) to choose contact sources
> Select (tick) all Google accounts (or any other sources you'd like to remove)
> Deselect (untick) anything you want to keep (e.g. SIM, Phone, Messenger)
> Tap the option button (to the right of the "add" and "search")
> Choose "Delete Contacts"
> Tap the option button again to "Select All"
> Finally, press "Delete" to remove all those contacts.

If you return to your Messaging app all those annoying Google contacts will no longer appear in the list.

I hope that helps, I signed up to the forums purely so I could post this working fix because I couldn't find one..

:D
