Help Deleting GMail account from HTC Hero?

I used my HTC Hero in the past, including a GMail address. Now I want to use the phone for different purposes, but not for email anymore. I know how to delete other email accounts, but how can I delete the Gmail account (without having to do a factory reset...)?

You really don't. Deleting the default account is not advisable anyway because you probably have apps installed using that account.

If you don't want to use the Gmail account for email anymore just go to Settings, pick your account and disable Emil synb.
