Deleting items from scene

I just got my Hero today. I want to get rid of things on the main scene and can't figure out how to.

Is there a good place to go for people just starting out with the Hero and wih Android, sort of a beginners tutorial?

Seems like I am clueless as to how to do anything. I did set up my IMAP email, twitter and FB though.

press and hold on the item
when it changes color
drag to the bottom of screen
it will still be in applications but not on the screen
