Root Deleting personal data from optimus v

Newbie
First of all sorry if this has been covered but I ran a search and couldn't find what I was looking for. I have an Optimus V that I am interested in selling. It is rooted but has no ROM installed. I've read that you shouldn't use the factory reset to wipe the device. I would like to remove my GMAIL account and all the contacts without going through each contact and deleting them individually. Any way to wipe a rooted device without bricking it? Thanks.
 
well turn off your phone hold down volume down+home button+power until the screen flashes then a menu should pull up navigate with the volume buttons and go to factory wipe click home button then scroll down with the buttons then click home on yes do a reset and bam! its done and it removes your accounts and such lol
 
I guess I have one of the newer optimus V's. When I tried the 3 button method nothing happens. No menu and it looks like a blank screen that's slightly backlit. Any other suggestions? Thanks.
 
If all you want to do is remove the Gmail acct go into settings>accounts & sync settings>tap on the account & there should be a button that says "remove account." I don't know if that's enough of a wipe to remove all of your personal info to sell it, though, and I'm not rooted, so maybe ask in the root forum.
 
Thanks, but I get that far and click on remove account. It then asks Do you really want to remove this account? Sure I do so I tap "Remove Account" and it says "This account is required by some applications. You can remove it by resetting the phone to factory defaults. You do that in the Settings application, under privacy." Based on some of the posts here in the forum about people bricking getting stuck in the recovery loop, bricking, etc. I don't know if I should do this. I'll check in the root forums.
 
Yeah, absolutely don't do it then. You can report your original post and ask a mod to move this thread to the root forum.
