Help Dell PC software is terrible

I've just spent six hours trying to root my streak, the entire issue being that the driver is broken on W7. What happens every time I reinstall is it detects my phone the first time, allows me to set it up, but after that, it becomes completely useless. Windows explorer recognizes the streak just fine in MTP and FTP mode, but I need the manufacturer's driver to make this work.

Any help? I'm ripping my hair out at this point.

BTW, it works in XP, but the sideloader doesn't.

Do you even need to use the Dell PC software?
