Dell Streak - First Impressions coming from an X10

Does the streak have official 2.2 or just custom ROMs?

I am a former Captivate user who switched to the HTC Inspire. I love that the Inspire comes stock with froyo, as I got tired of flashing custom ROMs on my captivate.

I thought the 4.3 Inspire would be big enough, but now I am wondering how nice it would be to have the 5 in screen...

Depends. I believe they are all still coming from the stores with 1.6. You can get it from Best Buy, Amazon and Dell directly now in the US for as low as $49 for the locked version. The "unlocked and off contract versions (at a higher price) will immediately give you the OTA 2.2 OS, the locked version has yet to be updated.

That makes sense. I could not figure out why the Dell website had 2 different prices for the streak. So they charge $100 for the 2.2 version. Unreal...

No, they aren't charging a different price for OS, it is just At&t has not released the upgrade for the locked device.

In phones there are 2 basic operating modes.

1. Locked or Unlocked - Device will work on 1 provider's network or is open (very few providers have compatible networks, so it really doesn't matter much, but At&t and T-Mobile are partially compatible, it is more meaningful if you travel overseas and want to use a pre-paid SIM on a foreign network).

2. On-Contract/Off Contract - All providers sell devices with a 2-year contract cheaper or you pay full price (normally over $500) without a contract.
