Haha sorry u don't know jack... i stabe mine with a knife and it did do shit to the screen really and with a fork. But if you go really hard you could brake the lcd behind it.. ya its tuff shit mang.... ps go youtube look at what the glass can take befor they put in on phones...
I dropped my iPod Touch numerous times onto the pavement, I'd say 10 times over the 2 years I had it. From between waist and upper body distance. I believe Apple uses Gorilla Glass. Any ways almost every time I dropped it, it landed screen down (of course) but it never cracked. But on the flip side I've heard stories of people dropping their device with gorilla glass from a much lower distance than I did mine onto a much softer surface and it cracking the 1st time. Gorilla Glass might just be the most unpredictable technology I've seen in awhile
These threads make me laugh.
As with ANY display out there, there is an LCD screen under a sheet of protective glass. In the case of the Streak, that protective display is Gorilla Glass.
That doesn't mean the phone is indestructible, it means that direct contact isn't going to break it, and it's not going to be scratched. If you sit on it, drop it and it lands awkwardly, or TRY to break it? It's probably going to work. For resisting scratches and any type of straight-on impacts, it's not going to break or scratch like most phones will.

Exactly. Something I don't understand because that was never said anywhere. Glass that's more resistant to breaking can still be broken just the same that a water resistant watch can still get water damaged in certain situations.

Fear not my fellow Streak users, for I hopefully can be of service.* I too was unfortunate enough to break my Dell Streak screen but could not find a service centre to repair my Streak. So, with this in mind, I set out to source parts for the Dell Streak and am now proud to offer my service for Dell Streak Repairs.
I used to work for a company who repaired PDA handhelds a few years back and we were the only repair centre Dell chose to forward all out of warranty repairs too.
I no longer work for the company and hope to go it alone amongst the sea of already established repair centres.

I have sourced the dell streak screen at present. Other parts i'm trying to source is the case plastics, headphone jack, mic, speakers and external buttons. I dropped mine from my wife's SUV (which is pretty high) to the concrete, and it landed right on the corner then flipped onto the screen. I looked at it for about a minute before I had the balls to pick it up and look at the screen, but there was no damage other than a bit of scuffing on the plastic.
Yes im interested in this service i have emailed and have not gotten answer back please contact me as soon as possible tiaronford@ymail.com . I also live in US so communicating verbally seems impossible because the number wont go through.
Bought the streak, but also have the ipone. Bought the otterbox Defender for it. Lifetime warranty. Hate the clip - doesn't hold phone if you are doing anything except sitting in an office. Fell out when got in truck, didn't know. Looked for it, saw it in driveway. Looked fine.
Case was fine - not a scratch (now remember this is a 3/4 ton diesel extended cab - my horse trailer truck). Picked it up, looked good til I turned it over - screen looked like that shatterproof glass or a kaleidoscope, lol!
Case replaced - warranty DOES NOT cover contents. Still a good case.
Forgot. Iphone doesn't have insurance or not anything worth having. $15 a month and you STILL have to pay the $200 you would if you upgraded. Plus they send you a replacement but they charge your card while you send back the damaged one and if they don't think their warranty covers it they keep the charge on there until they get the new one back. And it does NOT cover dropping it or water damage. You have to go to Best Buy for that and you have to purchase the phone from THEM. I did that for the Streak. Still doesn't cover phones not immediately recovered from immersion.
I have a customer who brought me his Dell Streak after pulling it out of his pocket. He purchased it from a local big box store (B*** B*y). After taking it back to the store and sitting through the warranty process a "manager" stepped in. Just before the associate was going to switch out the unit for a new one the g33k squ@d stepped in and said it was abuse. I have examined this unit thoroughly and found no outside scratches anywhere on the metal or glass but the lcd is spider webbed. I have submitted the issue to Dell and promptly been ignored even though several technicians have looked into the issue. Does anyone have any suggestions?

dropped my streak the other day and it didn't fall flat but hit the floor with one edge of the screen. that gorilla glass, off course, did break in a totally unexpected way: got some lateral pressure and didn't like that obviously.
in my opinion its just bad luck, coz the screen is pretty resistant in one dimension, the direction you tap it. if some pressure perpendicular to the screen is applied, it is not so resistant. so: hit the screen from the side and it will break.
i have had the same experience with high pressure glass windows during university. they take 1000 atm on the surface, but as soon there is some "itch" on the side perpendicular to the flat surface, they'll end up as powder.

I have the otterbox commuter case on my streak with the included screen cover. i have dropped my streak from about 3-4 feet in the air and it's been fine. not that i do it regularly but i feel safe having my phone in the case and not having to be anal retentive about what will happen if it drops

Well I have broken the screen on my Dell Streak and I didn't even drop it. I keep the device on a table next to my sofa when at home and keep it in my trouser pocket when out. It was working fine this morning and I haven't dropped it or anything. I got home and put it in its usual spot and then went about my business. picked it up to use it five minutes or so later and the screen is cracked and the device is unusable. The gorilla glass is fine and I think it is the lcd stuck underneath that is cracked and it is totally unusable. This is a real shame as I have become rather attached to my streak. I have heard some stories that Dell will replace but some people here seem to think otherwise.
[edit] Just been informed from Dell that this is not covered in the manufacturers warranty.
[edit] I had my Streak returned from Dell today repaired and in good working order. I am typing this on it now. It seems that they repaired it in a matter of hours and sent it back to me the same day.
