Help Desire display colours

Have a problem with my Desire (<6 months old) - is displaying odd colours. Seems like it is not using the full range of colours and colours don't blend together very well. When it first happened there was no display at all but that hasn't happened since. The phone works fine with all other features.

Took it back to the retailer who send it in to their tech people who proclaimed 'water damage' despite it never getting wet, never near a shower and carried in a bag not in a pocket.

I am not discounting water damage but my first impression is that it is a driver issue - but not sure how to fix that.

Model is HTC Desire 8183
Android 2.2

Pictures attached show the odd colours, the cross hatching is a result of taking a photo of the screen, but the colours are an accurate reproduction of what the screen looks like.

That's not a driver issue, it's a hardware problem.
If the techs say water damage, then it's a fair guess that the telltales are red. If the phone has got damp enough for that then it is very likely something has corroded internally causing the problem you see.
