Root Desire HD Ice Cream sandwich update.

rockinrom

Newbie
Morning all,
I bought a desire HD, which had already been rooted and S-off, no complaints great phone, other than no video:confused:

last night I got an update to: Ice cold sandwich-8.0.AOKP-si... which I downloaded, but before it installed, it said I didn't have Open recovery-twrp-2.1.1-ace, and If I didn't know what this was, to let Goomanager find it for me, which I did.

Now I have these 2 zip-files on my sd card under goomanager, and would like to know what to do next, reboot the phone installing Open recovery first, then reboot again installing the ICS update next, or what??

Do I have to wipe anything, as this is an update, or what do you suggest??

Please be gentle with me, as I am a noob, and a pensioner.:D

Hello and welcome to the forums rockinrom - thanks for joining! :)

We're always gentle with "noobs"... no need to worry there ;)

I too got the update notification and downloaded the update the other day. I haven't had 5 mins to install it yet. I guess that it will say the same to me, so will report back with an update in a while, but am sure that you are right and will be fine.

I don't know if wipes are needed before installing the new recovery... it can't hurt, as you would have to do one before installing the new ROM anyway.

Having had chance to charge my phone a little, I have installed the touch recovery (it is as simple as flashing in the same way as you flash a ROM) and am just booting in to the new IceColdSandwich.

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me, really nice:)

Couple of questions,
1: Do I put the zip files on the sd card direct, IE. take them out of goomanager first?

2 What should I back up?

3 Can you guide me to where you wipe the nessesary data.

I know I'm a pain, but I've been thrown in the deep end here. :D

If you want anything done with a Nokia N95, let me know.:D:D:D

No problemo... you're not being a pain :)

1. You don't need to put the downloads anywhere... you can get them from within the goomanager folder

2. Before you go anywhere/do anything, I would back up SMS/Call logs (if you want them)... this can be done with apps available on Google Play. You could also make a backup of your current system/settings (if you want to do this, I'd not wipe data/etc before flashing the new recovery) so that, should things go wrong (not very likely, but always worth covering yourself).

3. Do you mean in ClockWork or in TWRP?

Thanks durx, I'm going to leave it for now, when I tried to install the recovery zip above, it said I didn't have super user, when I'm pretty sure I have!

More reading on these forums required, I think!;)

You could maybe point me in the direction of a good video app. even paid for??

I downloaded video-cam pro from google, and it's no good at all, it either stops after about a minute, or only works if you don't move it, at all. As soon as you pan, it freezes.

Thanks again for your advice, no doubt I'll be back.:D

Do you have the superuser icon in your app drawer? It could be that you have not given root permission to one or more apps... I think you would just need to clear the cache of the superuser app, which would then let you give permissions again.

As for the video camera... I think that is a bug in IceColdSandwich that is being worked on... as the DHD has not officially had Ice Cream Sandwich, the correct drivers have not been released (IceColdSandwich is based on ROM's for other phones that have been ported to the DHD). I am not sure if another camera app would work either (have not actually tried the video camera on my phone... will have a go and let you know if it is working for me) :)

Have just tried the video camera on my phone and found that it doesn't work... I know that the camera (ordinary stills camera) wasn't working on earlier versions of IceColdSandwich.

It may be worth you considering a different ROM all together if the video camera is important... we can discuss this if needed :D
