Desire HD replaces URL with *it's own suggestions!!!!!!!!!?

Can someone PLEASE sort this out for me... Every time I write something in the URL bar in the browser, my phone decides to replace it with another one (similar address that I might've visited once or twice) that it highlights. There is no way of un-highlighting. No way of changing it. I can't turn off the suggestions... I can deleted the history, but I'm not prepared to do this EVERY time I want to go on the sodding internet. I've disabled half the settings and I still can't just search in the browser. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS THING?! Android has really really gone down in my estimations.

This really irritating problem means I can't even use the bloody thing without wanting to smash it into a million pieces...:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

If someone could help me with this, it would be much appreciated.

I've had a play about with Dolphin and I can't get it to autocomplete or behave in the way you suggested. It will give me suggestions, but if I continue typing, I can go to any address I want.

Does it automatically take you to the page, or does the url just appear in the address bar?

Do you mean something like you type in
facebook.com you get m.facebook.com?

It sounds like a problem with your phone rather than being a direct and widely-experienced issue with Android. I've never experienced it and, if others were, they'd generally have posted here by now. What sounds odd to me is that, from your description, you experience this with all browsers, including the third-party ones, but not with any other app that requires typed entry.

A few questions that spring to mind:
Are you using the standard keyboard or have you installed a replacement one?
Have you tried powering down by doing a long press on the power button?
Have you tried switching the phone off and removing the battery for a few minutes?
Have you tried clearing the data and cache, then stopping the browser (from the phone's Settings menu)?
