Help Desire S - Not reconnecting to WiFi router after long periods of none activity

Newbie
My Desire S has recently stopped reconnection to my BT Home Hub each morning. I have to go into my menus and connect. This has also happened on a few other occasions when out and about and arrived home for it not to automatically connect to my router.

I have set my router to "sleep" during the hour of midnight & 6am....save the planet etc etc. I have checked all my wifi settings on the phone and they all appear correct. Is there anything anyone might be able to suggest to try and resolve this?

Thanks in advance

S

There are a few fixes for this kind of issue. It's just a matter of trying them and seeing which work temporarily or permanently, if any:

Check you have the latest firmware for your router.

Reset your router by turning it off for 10 seconds then on again.

Do a soft reset on your phone, Power down phone > Remove battery for 30 seconds > Replace battery and power on.

You can try assigning a static IP address to your phone. Menu > Settings > Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi Settings > Menu (key) > Advanced > check 'Use static IP' > enter the IP address (the same one that will already be showing on that screen). Then go to your home PC; (if Windows) Start > In the Search field enter cmd > in the Window that'll appear, type ipconfig > note the 'Default Gateway' address and enter that in Gateway on your phone > Enter 255.255.255.0 in Netmask on your phone > navigate to Home screen on your phone to save the information > Reset your router.

If your phone uses BT Openzone, try unticking the option or even uninstalling the relevant app.

If you have any third party apps that search for, or purport to help with connecting to WiFi, you could try disabling or uninstalling those.

Add a widget to your Home screen to make it easier to connect your phone to Wi-Fi when it loses signal. Press it whenever you lose your Wi-Fi connection. Long press an empty space on Home screen > Widget > Settings > Wi-Fi > Select.

Wait for the new version of Android (2.3.5) which may offer more in the way of a permanent fix for Wi-Fi connectivity issues. This should, hopefully(!), be released in the next few weeks.
