Root Desire Unlocking Problem

I have unlocked my desire from Orange. The phone says the unlock is successful. However the phone only works with Orange still, and every time I put a non Orange card in it it asks for the code again.

Have you still got the code? If you enter it, can you unlock it? You unlocked it with another operator's sim in it in the first place?

I got the code. I'm using a T-mobile SIM card to get the unlock field up. The T-mobile card probably isn't active, which is the only thing I can think of that would cause a problem.
