What is the demand placed on cpu and mem like on this app when you have 6+ of these used as icons compared to just normal icons?
Edit: google search turned up that dtv does cause some hits to battery and speed in exchange for the added customization gonna have to take a pass

One of my friend's rooted device runs perfectly smooth with 3 pages of it filled. My unrooted Desire Z also runs fun with 2 pages of it normally, but whenever orientation is changed (i.e. Keyboard open) the home screen grinds to a halt for about 10 seconds.

Yes, but that only applies to DVR icons > 1x1 that are created by the widget. Normal 1x1 widget icons and custom shortcuts created within the app (versus the widget) are indistinguishable from normal shorcuts as far as resource utilization.

i don't know how to get those resources usage dates...they didn't appear on my task manager

Get PowerTutor and use that to check for power and CPU usage rates.
