Device Not Seen by Computers

I have a Galaxy Note on TMo (SGH-T879).

When I plug my phone into my PC's USB, the PC does not see the phone as a data device.

It makes the sound on the phone that it is connected, the battery charges off the PC, it sometimes makes the sound on the PC that something is connected. All other USB devices mount.

It does not mount on a colleague's Mac, either.

If I select Settings=>More=>USB Utilities=>Connect storage to PC and I plug in my phone, it continues with the "Please connect to PC" message.

Sometimes it will even show on the phone that it's "Connected as a Media Device".

When I go into Device Manager, under "USB Controllers", the "SAMSUNG Mobile USB Composite Device" shows.

This first began happening two days ago, and it happens sporadically. That is, sometimes everything mounts just fine.

This happens whether or not I have just rebooted the phone and/or rebooted the laptop. I have deleted and reinstalled the driver and also done a factory reset of the phone.

Any suggestions, other than try try again?

Try another USB cable. I have a faulty cable which allows charging but not data connection with my LG G Pad. A replacement cable works perfectly.

Forgot to mention, I'd tried three different cables. All of them had worked prior to Tueaday.

Same problem.

The Galaxy Note is a "jinxed phone". I have two other Samsung, and an iPhone. None of them have that problem. Only the GN.

The same problem happens to everyone.

Well, to be honest, that's not really helpful.

What IS helpful - and this is where T-Mo excels - after two factory resets, I called them at 11:15 last night to see what they'd do, and a replacement phone has already shipped to the hotel where I'll be tomorrow.

So while I'd like to know what caused this, in the end I don't really need to!
