Device protection

Hi
I have s7 edge on latest stock rom and want to root with magisk.
Following a guide it says first I need to flash twrp recovery in odin but before this I need to enable OEM unlock in developer options. When I try to do this it shows a dialog box saying that device protection functions will not work, I click enable and it shows the switch going on but then goes back to off after a second.
What am I doing wrong? Is the something I need to disable first?
Screenshot attached of the message.

In the guide it tells me once I flash twrp I need to format data then flash both the no encrypt file followed by the magisk file. Is this the correct steps?
Is it possible to flash xposed framework on s7 edge exynos?

Thanks for helping in advance,
James

sorry i must have missed this thread. what model s7 edge do you have? did you get your phone rooted?

ok i found this guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/how-to/easy-4-newbie-root-guide-sm-g930f-g935f-t3596558

but it just mentions to enable oem unlock. not sure what is going with your phone. maybe try a factory reset and then try to enable oem unlock

Yes I am on smg35f.
Have tried factory reset before and still the same.
I got the latest stock rom files from Samsung and flashed with odin.
Attached is screenshot of what I see when trying to enable oem unlock, when I click enable it seems to enable but after a second goes back to disabled.

I have been using custom romd in the past so I could do this easily, some already come with twrp and root already flashed. However every custom rom I've tried has had a error of some kind, I thought the most stable option is stock rom and rooting manually.
