Dialer is a mess after update

So, after the 2.1 OTA, my dialer and standard phone functions of my Eris are a mess. Whether my phone starts ringing with a blank screen, only to display the caller/number 2-3 rings in, lags and doesn't start the phone call after dialing for 10 seconds, on and on. It was almost perfect before the update. Any solutions to this issue specifically? Factory reset or something? This is totally unacceptable. If I go to the Verizon store, what are they going to tell me?

The factory data reset seems to clear up a lot of this sort of issue..

I guess I'll give that a try. Here's a question, sort of unrelated...When I redownload apps that I've paid for, how do I know it wont charge me again? Will it say specifically that it's not charging me?

The Market will know what you have paid for.:)

Reset absolutely did not help me with a lagging phone function. Did it last night and it actually seems worse.

I realize you're starting over with a reset, but if you've used the device heavily since the upgrade and reset, have you gone into the menu > settings > applications > running services area to see what load may be taxing your phone?

Also, do you keep hundreds of old texts? emails?

Have the caches been emptied on your browser, Market and maps? in settings > applications > manage applications > (following computing for sizes) menu > sort by size.

These measures, done routinely, can put the snap back into laggy devices.

^I just did a factory reset last night. I saved no texts or emails on the phone itself. Battery is definitely better than it was with 1.5 but the 'Phone' function is laggier. I'm messing with some settings now, we'll see what happens.

Actually, why does my trackball not work to wake the screen during a phone call anymore? That was added during one of the mini-updates, and now seems to be gone.
