I used to stream files from my media server using ES File Browser and choosing the Open As Video command. But the newest version of Dice Player Ad version has SMB share streaming baked in. There's a new Network tab -- enter your server IP and share folder, and now you can browse your network files and stream the video directly in Dice Player. You can now choose HW or SW mode, whereas you could only use SW mode through ES File Explorer. It still can't quite keep up with HDTV ts files, but mkv and avi work flawlessly.
When I first got the TP, I was using MX Video Player. Then I moved to BS Player. Now I've come around to Dice Player. It also lets you swap easily between internal storage and external SD.
