Did I just get a defective phone?

I live in Grapevine - middle of the DFW metro area. I never had a problem with any of the 9 phones my family and I have gone through in the time prior to the current bunch.

I finally made the switch from a "dumb" phone to the LG Motion (which I wanted since it was released initially) on 7/20 and have mostly regretted the experience. I love the phone - I just don't love the problems. :(

I get almost zero signal at home. When I make/receive a call I'm almost guaranteed to be dropped within 30sec or so. I have Vonage service so it is possible to work around and use their Extensions app to place calls but it only applies to calls I initiate, a clunky workaround at best.

I've taken the phone to an authorized dealer twice, they did some programming magic-type stuff and said it should be fine except it never was. One sales rep said I could switch phones to one of the more t-mobilish variety and get better service. Of course, for more money.

I took it to a corporate store in Irving a few days ago and they did some more programming updating (that had already been done at least twice) and said come back if I still had problems. Well, nothing improved.

Last night I installed the speedtest.net app and did 25 tests from servers in Keller, Dallas and Ft. Worth. In every test my dl was less than 1mpbs and usually the upload just times out.

I suppose my question after all the rambling is this: Of the current batch of phones offered in my area (76051) which is the best option - leaving out the obvious Samsung Galaxy of any variety.

Of course if anyone has any other solution, I'm more than willing to try just about anything. Thanks in advance ;)

The LG F3.

It's on GSM and is basically a larger Motion with a 4" screen. It gets HSPA+ and LTE. Downside is barely sufficient internal storage that does have a root semi-work around.

$150 unless rebated with a new line for $100.

Best idea is to go check the GSM out at a store near you. Auth dealers are almost as prevalent as Waffle House's here.

I work mostly in the north Irving/Coppell area (along 635, west of 35). Most times I get about 2meg download speeds. Just south of 635 along freeport parkway I do get some bad speeds and my phone drops to 1x/ev a lot. I even get some roaming occasionally. I don't get out towards Grapevine though so maybe that extra couple of miles the service drops. Sorry I can't get that much, other than to say that location is everything.

i'm really considering going back to my old samsung messager iii - at least i could get/place calls without them dropping. :(

i like the motion - but all the extra smart stuff isn't a trade-off for the inability to make calls - which is after all the purpose of a phone.
