Did You Know This?

Re spiders : has anyone established whether chestnuts in the corners of rooms or cleaning walls with something + lemon juice actually works? I can't tell seeing as we recently knocked down the lice/spider infested dog house and cut down a few trees ^_^

When frying onions and/or garlic to soften them without browning, add a teaspoon of water. As the water boils off, add another teaspoon. This lets you cook the onions more quickly as you can fry at a higher temperature without browning. This one definitely works :)

Be VERY careful adding water to hot oil. Rapid steam expansion is a type of explosion and can cause severe burns.

I own several devices that have remote control units (TV, DVD player, etc.). To keep the buttons on a remote control from gathering dust/dirt, place the remote controls button-side-down when not actually using them.

Hint #2: if you're using enough oil to cause any danger, you need to use a LOT LESS oil! Unless you're cooking in industrial quantities, you should only need around a dessert spoonful, maybe 2.

Hint #2a, subsection 3.12, revision 6-723: Never underestimate man's inherent desire to overdo things. ;)

Keep a handy supply if batteries for this. One of my remotes has an led to shore o when you're pressing a button and when the remote is upside down the led is always illuminated.

It may be a faulty button. To see if the remote control is actually emitting an IR signal, view the "business" end of the remote control through your camera phone - the emitter diode will glow when viewed through most digital cameras.

It is actually transmitting. The TiVo goes nuts when it is upsidedown.
