i downloaded the GO SMS PRO APP for my sms/mms use and my girlfriend said that the GO SMS PRO would cost against our data... i said it works the same as the stock app...

MMS are sent as data, but that's true for GO SMS and the stock app.
Regular texts don't use data.

Unless she's thinking of the Go Chat feature (if that still exists)? I'd guess that used data.
MMS technically use data, but at least here in the UK it is charged separately (commonly costing more per message than the data use would).
