Different classes of micro sd cards?

Hi all

I was wondering if someone could explain the difference between the different classes of micro sd cards??

Normally I have always gotten a 8gb sandisk micro sd card for my cellphones,and I believe they were class 4. Worked fine and never gave it much thought.

I am getting a new toy to play with a "phablet"(phone/tablet NOT replacing my Nexus of course) and am wanting to put a larger gb card in it when it arrives...am thinking 16 or 32gb but I am confused about the classes.

Can someone shed some light on what the difference is?

From my understanding the higher class the card the higher transfer rate it can do but well only be as fast as the device supports.

Class 2 - 2mbps read write speed
Class 4 - 4mbps
Class 6 - 6mbps
class 10 - 10mbps

However AFAIK phones today can't read/write beyond 4mbps anyway.
