One useful thing out of the Moment trashing review by Engadget was this gem in the comments (when asked if the compass existed):
Chris Ziegler @ Oct 27th 2009 2:45AMIt does -- Compass Mode is available in Google Maps Street View and works well.

All I have to say is: WOOOOOOOOT! To me, this phone is feature complete for hardware and barring it really just sucking when I go to pick it up (which I doubt), this is the phone for me.

I thought more people would be excited about this... At least I am!

I'm dumping my palm Pre for this. Looking forward to Sunday. Love the digital compass on the g1 and AM glad it will be on the moment as well

I would be excited about it, but I haven't taken a picture with my Touch Pro that required the flash (I've used it as a light a LOT though) vs having multitouch. I just see it as more useful. And honestly, I doubt I will have the phone for more than a year anyway. This will hold me over until the 1Ghz phones come down to sub-$200.

I can confirm that having used the device, it DOES have a digital compass, and it works rather well.

If you download GPS Status from the market, you can see it in action. Or you can use it in Street View in the Google Maps app, but you need to tell Google maps to use the compass in street view
