Hello, I got an android tablet for Christmas but I am having problem when I check to see how much storage I have left but the total space is wrong. The number of the total space is 5.90GB and 6.22GB USB storage. Is there any fixes for this problem or do I have to get a replacement from the store.

The total space that says on the box is 16GB

It would seem correct to me. a 16GB drive divided to 2,1 for app storage and another for media storage. 5.9 + 6.2GB is 12.1GB. The missing storage would be used by the system installed.
This is simply like how a 1TB hard drive actually only has 970GB available, or a 500GB laptop only has 450GB usable for the owner.

I wish that I could use the storage from USB storage for apps.

You got one of those Chinese budget devices that has partitioned internal storage. For some reason some no-name cheapo device manufacturers in Shenzhen still think it's 2010. With 4.x and 5.x Android versions, reputable device manufacturers like Samsung, etc. switched to unified internal storage, where all internal storage is available for apps. There's not a lot you can do about it for increasing app space with the device you got, apart from trying to hack it yourself, rooting, App2SD, etc. If you're not happy with it, probably best to return it for a refund.

The idea for Android is that internal storage is for apps, and removable storage like SD and USB is for media, photos, movies, music, etc.

There are reasons why things like the Digital2 are only $50 bucks.

If you install Storage Truth, it will give you a better idea of what's actually going on with this device.
