'Dillo Hills [Development]

LOL i dont know if its a good thing or a bad thing that fex hasnt posted in a while. Good because he is probably coding, bad because we want the game to be out >.<

I hope so! I can't wait; it's going to be incredible. I just hope it's out before noon tomorrow. 4 hour drive :/ (I'm not driving, by the way.. Lol) Good to hear from you, Fex! Hope it's going well

Awww! The way the poor dillo dies in the video!

Dev, haven't been able to sign up to be a beta tester, but had a few points to mention after watching the video -

#1 - Can't wait to play!!!!

#2 - The environment - Someone had mentioned this already, but the environment could use more variety. The 4 islands shown in the video seem pretty much the same.

#3 - Anyway to "AIM" for the birds while mid-air?

#4 - I found the music to be a total mismatch. The way you had described the game in very early posts, An Armadillo That Wants To Fly and the way this genre of games is (it is essentially a roller coaster ride!) the music was a little too subsumed. I would really like something that would get my adrenaline pumping (no, I am not talking about WWE entrance themes) rather than trying to induce an Alpha state of brain waves.

#5 - Why diamonds? Can the diamond sound be less sharp?

I disagree, I absolutely love the music! In my mind, a relaxing theme is the way to go, and this soundtrack is brilliant. Maybe they could consider letting people use their own mp3's as background music in some later update.

i know its not directed towards me but maybe this can generate some relevant discussion...

ill start at 3..

3)
-I'm not sure that being able to aim would be all that cool, being that the hover/glide mode is available. i think that should be the extent of the aim for htat.
-Perhaps you could make it so when you activate gravity (lower half of touch screen) you could ignore collision in the case you want priority of slides over bird hopping. could be a more strategic way to give the user more control (which ive read WE LOVE) over the game and make it less about random things that are inevitible.

4)
-i think the music is fine. i dont need to be pumped to want this cute little barking dillo to fly.
-but if i must critique it, i think that its a little to guitary, but... then again i think its canceled out by most the sound effects; creating a nice balance.

5)
-the diamond noise is terrible though. it doesnt match and it throws off the audio hierarchy completely as far as my ears are concerned.
-the skid noise on the ground i think could be less scratchy sounding, maybe more of a slide. seems like he'd have to be slowing down a lot more than he is with the noise you have now (too much friction?)

Hi Fez,

first of all let me thank you and your team for what looks to be an amazing app created in such a short time. you guys look like your doing wonders. keep up the good work :)

Second i have a 16 hour flight coming up later today(about 9 hours remaning) so please release your game so i can try it out on the plane :P

FYI Samsung Galaxy S i9000 international with Darky 9.4

good luck guys

Whats going on here? No posts since a few hours :D

Is the hyper over? ;)

everyone disapointed from waiting this game and waiting and waiting...
in the atart he said the game gonna release before a week im evey 1 hour checking the forum for update and nothing....

fex please tell me the app works on adobe air 2.5.15320 that is the only one that can download on my moment all the other apks said failed

This is why I think devs should never mention a possible timeframe for release. But I'm fine waiting. I have tons of crap to do when not playing games on my phone :)

I completely agree, lesson learned.

#2 - The environment - Someone had mentioned this already, but the environment could use more variety. The 4 islands shown in the video seem pretty much the same.

Yup - since that old beta, we've added in several different island themes. Each island now has a very distinct and beauiful atmosphere. :D

#3 - Anyway to "AIM" for the birds while mid-air?

Not really "aiming", but the new glide mechanic definitely comes in handy!

We've gotten very mixed feedback about the music: some people love it, and some people hate it. I think I'd actually like to include a few different tracks to choose from (along with the option to just play your own music), but that will come after the game is released.

I, personally, like to turn the music down and listen to "Forbidden Friendship" by John Powell while I play. Really gets the adrenaline pumping. :D

#5 - Why diamonds? Can the diamond sound be less sharp?

All of the game's sound effects have been toned down to be a lot less harsh, and the diamonds have been completely remastered to sound much more like soothing windchimes than sharp crystal bursts. :)

-------

Anyway, the to-do list is down to 5 items, and most of them are actually much shorter than items #6 and #7 were. I'm off to grab some breakfast, then back to work!

Hey fex, just signed up to mention that I'm looking forward to the game. Thanks for working on it so hard. :D Really appreciate you being open on how much has been done and how much there's left to do. The game looks amazing.

Hi Fex,

Noticed something. In the first video that you ever posted of the game, the hills were much different than in the latest videos posted. If im being perfectly honest i actually liked the look of the old hills better. They looked a little similar to Tiny Wings which looks great. I know you mentioned that in the latest build each island has it's own look, does that mean you've changed the look of the hills too? Imo it looks a little weird now, with all the stones and gravel in the hill.
