'Dillo Hills [Development]

release date? PLEASE BEFORE SPRING BREAK IS OVER! I check this forum every day! its become an addiction...

Game looks Great! cant wait for it to come out!

Another night of testing, and another huge wave of thanks to all of my testers!

We are continuing to optimize the game's rendering code as much as we possibly can, in order to get the game running as smoothly as possible on as many devices as we can.

We are also starting to move on to gameplay testing, and our testers are doing a fantastic job of helping me refine the game's physics and energy systems to provide a meaningful challenge without becoming too harsh.

I will continue to keep everyone up to date as we move forward with testing. Still no release date promises, but we're making good progress. :)

why not upload this to the market and add support for more divices in updadtes?
I belive that many many many pepole with galaxy s and other devices will buy it the others can wait

Seeing the last video, it seems like the Dillo flys to much time horizontaly, it's give me a stranger sensation. (Superman sensation)

The new position of the energy bar and the multiplier are fine!

just launch the game man...
make some updates to finish the game completely but just for now I think we all will be happy if you do that:)

We won't spend too much longer working on optimizing for old devices (after all, upgrading devices is just part of modern technology), but there are still a lot of things we can do quickly before release to help a few more people be able to access the game.

The trouble with developing in AIR, instead of in native Android SDK, is that everything essentially has to be processed within the "shell" or the "wrapper" of AIR, which can hurt performance a little. In future sequels, we will probably develop the game directly in native code, but for now, we still want to do as much as possible to get things running beautifully for everyone. :)

Everyone here is suggesting changes, which is great, but all are based on videos. In my opninion videos are 'misleading'. It looks like that, but you have no idea of how it is. Compare it to driving a car and watching someone drive, there's a total difference. I would suggest a release or maybe a public (for this forum?) beta where everyone can test it and then after a week or two add all the suggested changes that are worth it...

I know you're working as fast as you can, but since I cannot join the beta: do you have ANY timeframe? One day, one week? I'm really getting bored over here pressing F5... :D

Also, to be honest:
I'm kind of losing my interest in this game. All I read is 'Soon', 'tonight', 'great beta' but that's it. No specific information. Don't get me wrong though, I'm still VERY interested, just a littlebit less (even considering buying Tiny Wings on my iPod Touch...).

Yongz just had to pull the N64 emulator because the excessive poor rating because he released it prior to it being as good as the market wants. Releasing an app premature is a great way to get stuck with a low rating in the market, not to mention a slew of nasty comments.

A little bit of feedback based on that video posted. I noticed something where while the armadillo is air-born.. it seems to fly horizontally for a second. Go to 0:25 in that last video posted.

Looks like it wont be able to run on my phone after all. Hope you will find a solution for us with old phones

And your phone is what? G1? It isn't much help to others to say it wont work on my device, and then leave out what kind of device you've got..

Anyone that tried the beta can say something about this?

same as Tiny Wing with the whole flight thing. I think it is just the vieo your watching because playing it is much different then the vid, and the reason it does that is because he has gained enough speed to laugh it so far.

I've played Tiny Wings a LOT and let me tell you that does not happen. The bird doesnt move horizontally.. it makes a perfect oval shape.. very smooth. I don't know what it is.. but the whole jumping/flying mechanic just doesn't seem as smooth/polished in dillo hills as it does on Tiny wings.

Don't get me wrong.. im not bashing it at all. I recognise it's in beta and things still need to be ironed out.. but im just getting the word out there to help the devs make things tighter.

That was the 1st Beta Release, Fex is on Beta release 3 rite now! Much Smoother and Polished then the video!

Dont worry guys! The whole horizontal hover thing is completely on purpose.

See how I was touching the top half and bottom half of the screen? Well the bottom half shoots you down, but the top half puts you into sort of a hover mode that slows you down a little, but also keeps you in the air longer.

Its great.

Yup - the game's physics are still under heavy scrutiny, and I have actually spent most of the day today rebuilding things from the ground up a few different ways to see what I like and don't like. One of the biggest pieces of feedback we got from yesterday's test session is that while the physics felt fun, they also felt a little too easy (almost as if they did all the work for you), and I'm currently working on revamping everything to provide an entirely better experience. :)

I think that the "sideways flying" you saw in the video was the new glide mechanic, which has been toned down a lot since that video was taken. It's still a very useful and fun feature even after the nerf, but yesterday's testing indicated that it was simply too awesome before: a skilled player could keep going almost indefinitely if they had amazing glide control.

But anyway, enough chatting for me - back to coding!

I'm guessing I'm not getting into the beta test group. No worries, bad pic for the contract. Anyways its great that the game is coming along. better to be done, polished, and amazing than halfway decent and just a game to play when you are done with all other games on your phone. Hope its released soon.

Htc hero gsm, the reason i didnt post the model, was because i asked earlier in the thread and posted the details then

Soo, what do you guys think of my idea with daily challenges instead of the way they've done it on tiny wings. Way to easy to win the game.

Btw Fex, was thinking a cool feature would be daily challenges if thats possible. Tiny Wings was kinda easy to pass, and once you've done all of the challenges it gets kind of boring. With rotating daily challenges it would keep the game "alive".

I like your idea jon094 tiny wings was easy and this could make dillo much better. I have been waiting for thi game for about 2 weeks now and can't wait untill its on the market.

well to do that wouldnt you have to do an update in the market everyday? Some people dont have unlimited data plans and that could get costly. Not me...but some people :). If you found a different way than updating the game everyday I think it could be a good idea.
