Direct Dial in Note 5?

desert dogs

Newbie
I apologize if this has been asked and answered but I searched and didn't find anything. I just got upgraded to the Note 5 from the Note 3. So far I love the phone but there is one thing that I cannot seem to find/do that I could on the Note 3. I had one of my screens on my Note 3 be set up for "direct dial widgets" of contacts that I frequently call. This was really handy as all I had to do is just tap their icon and the call would be placed.

All I can seem to find on the Note 5 is a "contact" widget that just places the contact on a screen. That is fine and dandy except I still have to select the phone number after tapping the icon.

I do not see that feature on the Note 5. Am I missing something?

Thank you in advance for any assistance. :)

There is a widget that is Direct Connection You can choose Phone or text drag it to your desired location it will then pull up your phone book for you to select the number you want.

What I am looking for is the ability to put individual contacts on one of the screens to basically make a shortcut to calling people. Is the Direct Connection widget in the N5 widgets, or is it something downloaded from the play store? I don't see anything like that from my choices.

It is in my widgets and it will do exactly what your wanting

I wish I had that widget, but it is not shown on my phone as you can see below. I suppose it is something that Verizon eliminated if that is possible.

That is highly possible, both VZW & AT&T are known for doing just that,as well as hiding/withholding settings available to otherwise similar devices.

It is just odd though because my N3 was with Verizon. Guess I will have to go into the store and what a pain that will be, lol.

Is there a way to have a contact shortcut dial the default number directly from the home page? My HTC One did it easily.

Yes:
1) Go to Contacts & tap on desired contact
2) Tap on More
3) Tap on Add Shortcut to Home Screen

All the shortcut does is bring me back to the contact and I must click the phone icon to dial.
It's still quicker than digging through the contact app, just one extra tap,for a grand total of two taps to dial the desired contact.
Any luck finding something in the Google Play Store?

Nova launcher allows you to create a direct dial widget... Plus I like the ability of tweaking the look and feel of my device.

Speed Dial Widget did the trick for me. Thanks OSUFAN. I can't believe they crippled this very vital feature that I used the heck out of on my Note 3.

Sad to report that with the upgrade to Marshmallow (Android 6.01) Speed Dial no longer works. This is extremely disappointing as I use this feature all the time and now and it is totally blocked.

I am using nova launcher and direct dial is still available as a widget under contacts.

I just updated to Marshmallow (6.0.1) and low and behold the direct dial widget is back! :) It was under contacts along with contact, direct message and direct dial.

After having read the previous posts, to say I was shocked is an understatement!

So, I just went from a Note 3 to a Note 5 and i had one page setup with the regular contact widgets that would "pop up" and ask if you wanted to call or text.

now on the Note 5 I add the same widget to the screen and instead of a pop up. it gives me the contact info page...... (this is not very helpful)

the only work around i have at this point is to make a widget for direct call and message and a 3rd for a hangouts shortcut and put them all in a folder)

is this how everyone's is now working on 6.0.1? and does anyone know of a way to get the old feature back?
