Help Direct dial on HTC One M8

Carrera

Lurker
On my old phone I had all my family set up as icons on my home screen; just punch an icon and you get straight through - very useful when you're driving and the phone is on a Bluetooth handsfree connection.

For the life of me I can't find out how to do this on my new phone, an HTC One M8. It's running Android 4.4.2 if that means anything; if anybody knows how this is done, please share the secret!

It should work the same way - long press the homescreen, go to Widgets and it's a widget.

.. or on more recent versions of Android:

- hit the Menu button (looks like a circle around 6 dots in vanilla android)
- tap the Widgets tab
- touch and hold the Direct Dial widget
- drop the widget on a screen
- select the contact number to shortcut

OK, I just got mine a few days ago and I do not have a direct dial widget. Do I have to download something? I had the Galaxy S3 and it was in the widget menu, it's not in my HTC. Any help would be appreciated!

Create a new home screen, long press on the home screen and a menu will pop up. Select apps & widgets, press the drop down arrow and select widgets, scroll through until you find the people widget. Tap on the widget and you should see a menu, select one of the options listed you can then add the contacts you want.
You should now have a home screen with favorites .
Hope that helps

Long press desired screen and select apps and widgets. Hit the drop-down arrow and select shortcuts. Direct dial is an option there. The rest is the same as before.

Looks pretty cool too. Might start using it myself. Uses a thumbnail photo.

The people widget does a block of direct dials, not a single one.

And I DO NOT have a direct dial widget, the only thing that's remotely close it is the enormous people widget.

Just had the same problem. When you go to add the widget , there is a dropdown at the top of the list of widgets that by default says "widgets". Tap it and select shortcuts.

Missed the part where it said shortcuts. On the S3 it was a widget so I kept looking there. Sorry about that! Thanks for the help!

Ive had htc phones going on 6 years and NEVER used direct dial, but because you were asking for answers now ive got direct dial folders for work and family now on my home screen. I like it better now. Much easier. I too did not want a favorites widget taking up an entire screen. Plus if someone not on the favorites widget sees they aren't there, well, you know! LOL. THANKS.
