Dirt Bike vs Mountain Bike?

What is more versatile?

A mountain bike(all mountain) or a dirt bike?

I agree. In my opinion a "dirt bike" is an offroad motorcycle and a "mountain bike" is an offroad bicycle. I suppose some would consider a "BMX" style bike a "dirt bike". In my eyes (and those of OTD apparently), you're asking about 2 different animals.

Personally, a mountain bike is more versatile. It can be packed in (or on) a car easily, it can go pretty much anywhere you can pedal it. Mine currently has shallow-tread tires on it as I'm primarily riding on pavement or compacted stone dust. I may eventually swap back to knobbies but I don't plan on doing any hardcore offroading. My mountain bike is also 17 years old, no suspension at all, I'm basically just trying to lose some weight at this point.

Well if you are talking about a bicycle vs a motorcycle I guess it all depends on what you are trying to do.

I have a mountain bike and I love it. It is great exercise and with the 29er I have it is even good for riding on the road.

I've never owned a motorcycle so I can't comment on that.

Defo pedal-power here. The out-of-the-way places I like to spend time are usually off-limits to any form of motorised transport anyway.

let me tell you, the montain bike a great workout. the dirt bike most would say the power no workout, you ride a coarse and try running 20 laps,after3-4 you will be out of breath and feel it in all of your body. i used to ride not anymore just a street motorcycle.

Along with the Electra Townie 7D I borrow from my girl every so often.
